+ From the Gospel according to John ; 1, 1-18
The Word became flesh and dwelling among us.
In the beginning was the Word and the Word was with God and the Word was God, in the beginning with God all things were made through Him and without Him nothing was made of what exists . In him was life and the life was the light of men
The light shines in darkness and the darkness did not overcome. He was a man sent from God: His name was John. He came as a witness to testify to the light, that all might believe through him. He was not the light, but came to bear witness to the light. Word was the true light that enlightens every man. It was in the world and the world was made through him, yet the world did not recognize him. He came to his and his people received him not. But to those who received him he gave power to become children of God, to those who believed in his name, who, not of blood nor of the will of the flesh nor of the will of man, but by God they were created. And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth. John gives witness and proclaims: "It was him, I said, 'He who comes after me is ahead of me because he existed before me." From his fullness we have all received, grace upon grace. Because the Law was given through Moses, grace and truth came through Jesus Christ. God, no one has ever seen: the only Son who is God and is in the bosom of the Father, he has revealed.
Exploring (Monsignor Roberto Brunelli)

The gospels of the Christmas season are taken from the first chapters of Matthew and Luke , who speak of Jesus' birth sight, so to speak, from below, earthly perspective. John opens his gospel instead of looking "down" at the entrance of the Son of God in the world: the former because of divine, supernatural and its consequences. It 's a solemn page, what we read today, open a page that seems unfathomable openings on depth of God says, inter alia: "In the beginning was the Word and the Word was with God and the Word was God, in the beginning with God all things were made through him and without him nothing has been done of what exists. In him was life and the life was the light of men, the light shines in the darkness and the darkness could not overpower. Came into the world the true light that enlightens every man. To all who received him he gave power to become children of God And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld his glory, the glory of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth. God, no one has ever seen: the only Son, that is God and is in the bosom of the Father, he has revealed. "
The only-begotten Son of God, as God the Father, the Word is, therefore, that the Word of God, who created the world is one in whom is life, that he wanted to communicate to people becoming flesh, that is becoming one of us, accept it, involves becoming children of God In the words of St. Augustine, "the Son of God became man, because men do the children of God." Welcome: the incomparable gift of being adopted as children of God is not automatic and general, God does not force anyone to accept it, nor the waste delivered to those who are not interested, for get it, you need the free decision to accept his Word made flesh. We need the positive will to recognize Jesus as the revealer of the Father, the Master who teaches the truth about God and the way to reach him, as the One through whom you created the world and can give people eternal life. "I am the way, the truth and the life", said one day. To express the greatness of the gift, the Gospel passage of today compares to the light that shines in the darkness. That light is a symbol of immediate understanding, and this crosses all cultures, from ancient Egypt to the Enlightenment, and expression is multiform in every field, from art (the sun, a lamp, the golden background of old paintings) to the common language (just remember that birth is also said to "come to light"). How, on the physical plane, the sunlight gives warmth and allows life, as happens on a spiritual level with the divine light, without which the realm of the darkness of death. In the Bible this symbol opens and closes the revelation of the Creator's first words are: "Let there be light" (Genesis 1:3), and at the end declares that the citizens of the heavenly Jerusalem, paradise, "There will be over night, and will no longer need the light of lamp or the light of the sun, because the Lord God giveth them light "(Revelation 22.5). And between the first and last, quotes light Lots of all, to accompany and illuminate the dark days of humanity so often, is in the full value of the constant shining affirmation (Gospel according to John 8:12) in which Jesus himself gave confirmation to the words above, relating to the Word and who welcomes him: "I am the light of the world whoever follows me will never walk in darkness but will have the light of life."

FOR PRAYER ; (Luis Espinal )

Allenaci, O Lord,

to launch ourselves in the impossible because we are in the impossible
your grace and your presence
we can not fall on deaf ears.
The future is an enigma,
our path forward is in the mist,
but we want to give ourselves
because you're waiting in the night, with a thousand

human eyes brimming with tears.
